Releases report on coordination issues
Preparation of the strong voter turnout in November, Mary Land Task Force on voting irregularities recommendations issued on Tuesday, hoping to avoid what the major problems posed by delays at some polling places during the ‘primary-2006.
The Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler contains 13 recommendations, which can be implemented before November, including a procedure to evaluate the proper number of machines to vote on each court.
Gansler, talk to Evangel Cathedral in Prince George’s County, said that voters succeed in giant “snake-like lines in the church during the primary-2006.
“It’s America in the 21st century, but it took three hours to practice their franchise,” said Gansler. “It reminded me of the days of investigation and literacy tests taxes - obstacles to the coordination - a little less than an exercise of fundamental rights, that we have in our democracy.”
Currently, the State Board of Elections advises the local elections tables on the number of machines to vote on each court should be local and have the last word.
The Task Force recommends that local drives to publish the number of machines are scheduled to vote three weeks before election day. If the amount is less than the number of machines recommended by the state, the board of directors should be a written statement. Boards should also establish local emergency measures in force, if the machines are needed, the report recommends.
The report also cites a lack of uniformity in the way local elections Boards counted provisional ballots that are available locally in the choice of places, voters whose names do not appear in the register of electors and voters the first time, labelling is not necessary.
“We need uniformity in this process,” said Sherrilyn Ifill, the movement for civil rights lawyer and law professor at the University of Maryland School of Law, co-chair of the Task Force. “Hard premises must be trained and local councils for maps should be on an agreement with what the proper requirements of the law regarding the counting of provisional ballots to vote.”
In 2006 the basic human error and technical problems have delayed the vote in some of the biggest orders the rule of law. Most problems were caused by the general elections of 2006.
