The prevalence of credit card fraud and other identity in connection with crimes has led to a cottage industry of services for the protection of human sacrifice.
These products include access to credit reports, e-mail notifications about changes in your credit and insurance, you can cover the expenses could righting every wrong.
While some services are offered free of financial institutions, others cost more than $ 100 per year.
That gives pause for consumer advocates say, some of the services offered - such as lawyers’ fees - are rarely needed.
The most common scenario is that someone misappropriates your credit card, which technically as identity theft, but your liability for this is limited by federal law to $ 50 - and this amount is often waived.
“In general, I think it is a good concept, but I think the prices are exorbitant,” said Evan Hendricks, published, the Privacy Times newsletter and a recently published book about the credit. “Profit from the fear of the fastest growing crime.”
